Content

Innovation policy can be a powerful tool to navigate our economies through the twin transition towards a sustainable and digital society. It encompasses a range of strategies and regulations designed to foster innovation by, e.g., incentivizing R&D, enabling university-industry collaborations, or facilitating cross-industry knowledge transfer. Innovation Policy hence plays a critical role in addressing pressing societal challenges, such as climate change, healthcare, poverty, and inequality by creating the framework conditions for a successful innovation system.

The lecture covers the following aspects:

  • Development, economics and governance of science, technology and innovation (STI) policies at national, international and supranational level
  • Counteracting market and system failures through innovation policy
  • Analysis of supply-side policy instruments, e.g. entrepreneurship, R&D financing, and technology transfer
  • Analysis of demand-side instruments, e.g. education, regulation, and public procurement
