German Standardization Panel (DNP) - report on indicators 2014

Based on a representative database, the report on indicators 2014 of German Standardization Panel (DNP) provides information about several topics related to standardization. The contribution of innovations to the competitiveness of businesses as well as to other entrepreneurial dimensions is undisputed. The benefits of standardization and standards, however, are not yet recognized as a significant influencing factor - not least because of a lack of empirical investigation. The German Standardization Panel starts from here by collecting data on firms’ standardization activities through annual surveys. This database renders possible an investigation of the impact of standards and standardization on various economic and social dimensions. A systematic analysis thereby requires a reliable, detailed database. In particular, data which is collected regularly, e.g. through surveys, so called panel data, is crucial for the exploration of the complex effects of standardization processes and the application of formal and informal standards on business success. In order to achieve these goals, the German Standardization Panel (DNP) was set up in autumn 2011 by the German Society for the Promotion of Research on Standardization (FNS).
