Innovation Society Today

This graduate program financed by the ‘Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG)‘ is anchored in the analysis of innovation and the creation of novelty in modern societies. At the Chair of Innovation Economics, our particular focus within this context is on the impact of Regulation on Innovation.

More specifically, the impact of the ‘General Data Protection Regulation’ (GDPR) on Innovation. The GDPR is the most comprehensive data protection regulation to date with widespread implications for the digital economy and companies’ business models. It is an inherent European regulation in terms of reflecting the historical experiences and cultural values of many EU member states. Conversely, it will also have a strong future impact on the societies and digital environment in the EU. Despite its European characteristics, it will also have widespread implication all over the world particularly as it is required by all companies doing business with the EU to also adhere to the GDPR.
