The Internet is indisputable a growth engine for the world economy. Several radical innovations are based on the infrastructure and the features of the Internet, e.g. e-commerce for more than a decade now. Additionally, the influence of Social Media activity increased rapidly over the last couple of years. However, the interaction between the characteristics and opportunities of the Internet and different types of innovations has only recently and partly been investigated. This project shall address the direct infleunce of internet-based indicators on innovation using data from the Berlin Innovation Panel (BIP).
In a first step for this project a theoretical and conceptional framework will be established regarding the theoretical influence of internet-based indicators on innovation. Once this framework is established data will be collected for the companies in the BIP. An empirical approach to the research questions will be used to find significant and reliable results.
The project "Internet-enabled Innovation" is conducted in cooperation with the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (HIIG ).
