"Berlin is becoming more innovative", that is the main finding of the Innovation-Monitoring Berlin report, published today by the Technologiestiftung Berlin. The report is based on the results of the Berlin Innovation Panel 2013.
In the survey period 2010 to 2012 67% of companies in Berlin have been actively pursuing innovation activities. That is an increase of 2 percentage point compared to the period 2009 to 2011. This is especially remarkable in comparison with other metropolitan areas in Germany and with the national average. While the share of companies for the other matropolitan areas decreased by 2% from 66% to 64% between the periods 2009/2011 and 2010/2012, the numbers for the national average remained at a low 60%.
In a recent press release by the Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Technology and Research, Senator Cornelia Yzer traces this back to the well developed and sustainable innovation promotion in Berlin.
The results are based on the second wave of the Berlin Innovation Panel that has been established in cooperation with the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim.
